On Tuesday, April 22, 2014, Columbia Council 7559 celebrated the 44th anniversary of Earth Day. Guest speaker, Ms. Gemma Evans, Recycling Coordinator from the Howard County Department of Public Works, spoke about Howard County’s recycling and composting efforts. Ms. Evans reviewed the list of materials that can be recycled, both at the curb as well as those materials that can be brought to the Alpha Ridge Landfill.
In addition, the Council went “green” for the meeting. Plastic beverage cups were recyclable. Paper napkins and paper plates were all made from recycled paper, and paper hot cups and utensils were all compostable.
